Louisianas resident health care system is lousey to begin with as many of them suffer from exceedingly poor health that is often worse than that in many developing countries. Louisiana ranks dead last or at the bottom on a long list of benchmarks including the prevalence of smoking and obesity, deaths from heart disease and cancer; rates of infant mortality, asthma and diabetes, preventable hospitalizations, and people without health insurance. Jindals hard line stance is attributed to a rumored run for the White House run after his term expires at the end of 2015, and its fueling a growing backlash in his state against him.
