Kitsap Humane Society Community Cats Coordinator Job Description Posting Date: August 4, 2014 Start Date: Immediate, negotiable Duration: This is a contract position, 9-12 months in duration Schedule: 20 hours/week (approximately 4 days a week) Compensation: $12.00/hr JOB DESCRIPTION The Kitsap Humane Society (KHS) is a progressive animal welfare shelter whose mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome homeless animals. We are committed to an open admissions policy, animal rehabilitation and a low euthanasia rate. The Community Cats Program is an essential part of KHS’ progressive mission. This position will develop and implement targeted Trap-Neuter-Release (TNR) programs and support community members who care for local free-roaming and feral cats (“community cats”). The 2014-2015 Community Cats efforts will focus on Port Orchard, with a goal to provide spay/neuter and vaccinations for 800 community cats in that specific area. In addition to Port Orchard, the Community Cats Coordinator will provide as-needed support for other KHS TNR efforts elsewhere in Kitsap County. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: - Actively promote KHS’ Community Cats Program in Port Orchard through targeted outreach and advertising - Locate, engage with, and offer TNR assistance to local community cat caretakers - Identify areas of high free-roaming cat populations within Port Orchard - Recruit and manage volunteers to assist with trapping, transport and re-releasing community cats - Organize and facilitate TNR training classes and other educational and support opportunities pertaining to community cats advocacy - Perform and assist with large scale TNR as needed, including notifying communities of upcoming trapping dates - Answer calls from the community about free-roaming cats, offering advice and information - Collect data on spay/neuter surgeries, community cat caregivers, community cat populations and locations for internal and external reporting - Work closely with KHS Vet Services staff and local veterinary clinics to schedule spay/neuter surgeries - Work closely with Foster Care Coordinator and Transfer Coordinator to find foster or rescue placement for sick, injured or behaviorally adoptable cats and kittens identified through TNR efforts - Work closely with Volunteer Coordinator to engage current KHS volunteers with the Community Cats program - Inventory all KHS Community Cats Program property, including but not limited to humane traps - Other duties as assigned The ideal candidate will: - be hard working - love animals, and have cat handling skills and knowledge of cat behavior - be computer literate - be able to communicate respectfully and effectively with people of all backgrounds - be positive, friendly, and able to provide excellent customer service - be flexible around our scheduling needs - be open minded and supportive of progressive animal welfare trends and practices - have a valid WA state driver’s license and a clean driving record Please email [email protected] with your resume and 1-2 paragraphs about yourself and why you are interested in this job.
