Low Income House Mortgage Reduction a Priority for Team UNITY ==================================== Basseterre, St.Kitts (TUCOM-Jan 9th 2015):-The reduction of Low Income Home Mortgages remains a Priority of the Team UNITY. This was reiterated during the New Year’s Address of Team UNITY Leader Hon. Dr. Timothy Harris. Dr. Harris announced that 2015 signals a New Beginning for St.Kitts-Nevis. A New beginning that will be ushered in by Team UNITY. The popular leader also stated that the New Beginning will see a reduction in Low Income Home Mortgages under his Team UNITY government. In his New Year’s Address Dr Harris said “You must know that in 2015, there is light on the horizon. You must know that in 2015, rebuilding will take place in UNITY. You must know that in 2015, you the people will have the cake and not just the crumb. You must know that in 2015 it will be a new beginning for you and your families but also a new beginning in St. Kitts and Nevis. This new beginning will bring change for the better and not more of the same. This new beginning will reduce mortgages .” It is widely known and accepted that the last batch of houses built by the illegitimate Douglas regime were too small and too expensive for the poor people, for whom they were intended. In a 2014 UNITY Youth Conference Dr. Harris lamented “Imagine that you are working for minimum wage and your government promises you an affordable income house, would you expect to be paying $600 plus, $700 plus, $800 plus out of your small minimum wage? This is unacceptable especially when those homes are incomplete- no tiles, no cupboards, no paints and inadequate fixtures. Team Unity is committed to provide our people with homes that they could pay for and living spaces about which they and their children can be proud.” Hon. Eugene Hamilton stated “Some of the people who have low income houses now paying $500 a month for 30 years. $500 a month for 30 years is over $150,000 for a $50,000 house built with your own money! This is unreasonable. Team UNITY will remedy that and reduce those mortgage payments.” In addition to reducing the high mortgages which poor people are forced to pay, Team Unity has committed to make lands available to the people at very low prices thereby encouraging a property owning society. These and other key aspects of the Team UNITY Prosperity Agenda was alluded to by various speakers on Thursday evening January 8th at a massive Rally held at Ponds Pasture.
