M&Ms Giving Many years ago I had a copier paper box full of M&Ms for a crucial teaching on giving in childrens church. I asked the children if anyone loved M&Ms? Of course everyone raised their hands and shouted!! I asked for ten volunteers from the crowd of a few hundred children. They were not sure what they volunteered for, but they were hoping it involved the tiny chocolate morsels they all knew and loved! I handed out ten regular bags of M&Ms, five plain and five peanut, with the following options. Snarf the entire bag down right here, right now. They could give the whole bag away. Another option would be to please mom by keeping the bag until after lunch. The final option, they could give a a lot, or a little bit away to a friend. They had ten seconds to make their decision and let me know! Next, I had each child then execute their decision. We had three big guys rip open the bad and snarf the whole amount before they even sat back down in their seats, two kept them to eat them later after lunch, three who shared theirs with others, and two who gave their entire bag away! Now, I didnt show the group what else was still in the box yet. I informed the ones who snarfed theirs to be seated, and those who kept them for later after lunch to be seated. All the rest, I requested that they remain down front. Now was the exciting time for revealing what else was in the box! I removed the box lid, and picked up a huge punch bowl full of M&Ms!! It was massive, with M&Ms falling out of it because it was so full of the delicacy. Next I pulled out several spoons of various sizes along with a hand full of gallon-size baggies! Since this group had either shared or given away their candy, I was going to give them more, based on what they did with their loot. One shared a few M&Ms with his friend, so he ended up with a tiny baby spoon, another shared about half with others so they received a tablespoon, and one other shared about 3/4s of her bag so she received a huge industrial-sized spoon. The ones who gave away their whole bag of M&Ms, well lets just say they had a big surprise coming!! Each child had five seconds to scoop as many M&Ms into their baggie as they could get in there, with the spoon they had received. If any M&Ms ended up on the floor, they could keep them too! The five second rule was in effect! So each one used their spoon and got as many as they could in their baggies. Obviously the larger spoons received so many more it was ridiculous! Oh, the ones who gave away their bag...they each used the largest spoon available, and were able to get a ton of M&Ms, AND they both were handed a huge two pound pound bag in addition to the scooped amount!! They were ecstatic about the outcome. Luke 6:38 says, the standard of measure you measure unto others, will be the standard of measure he measures unto you! If you give sparingly, then sparingly he will measure unto you, but if you give generously, then generously he will measure unto you! Youll receive your gift pressed down, shaken together and running over! Be a cheerful giver and watch the hands of God pour out so much youre actually overwhelmed!! God so loved the world that he gave... Now there was a father present with his child that day who came up to me afterwards, who had written me a check for $500 personally, because he had finally gotten and understood the giving message. He would later take a company public and make a ton of money, which he was extremely generous with! He ended up starting several more businesses and selling them off making millions of dollars! To my knowledge I had never met this man before that day, and wouldnt see him again until many years later, when he told me how much this message had changed his life and his legacy! We truly never know how our lives will inspire others beyond where they are currently! Life is a blast and it really is more blessed to give than to receive!!
