M-O-N-D-A-Y! Wow! Where did the weekend go? It was a great one, just went too quickly. Have you ever wondered if your life would ever amount to anything? If all you have worked for would ever pay off? I sure have. There have been times when I went to bed at night wondering if all I had invested in would ever amount to anything. There is a scripture found in Jeremiah that has often helped me during times like this. Chapter 29 verse 11 tells me “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” To share a behind the scenes look into my ministry life might surprise some, but I am very transparent and open. To do that I want share about our church and what is taking place there. A few years ago Michele and I thought about calling it quits. Ministering to others had become a job and not passion-filled calling. We were tired and burned out. Tired of battling the same old battles and never feeling we had any traction. One night I sat on the couch, unable to sleep and about 3am I read this passage. Breaking it down, God was for me, God has plans for me, God was going to bless me and to give me a great future. God was! That night I made a decision to hold on, stay the course and finish what I knew God had called Michele and I to do. Since that night there have been battles resulting in losses and victories, tears of sorrow and tears of joy. We have grown and developed and watched God do the unexpected. He has been faithful. I am glad we held on…He had blessed us and given us a future. -Last Sunday night at Life Church Louisville was our annual Trunk or Treat, and so many people came out that a line wrapped around the building and into the middle of the field for almost 2 hours. It was amazing to see so many, possibly thousands, come and visit. -Wednesday night we participated in the Trunk or Treat at BJ’ Sports Pub benefiting the Louisville Dream Center and the community filled our truck with food for our food pantry. Amazing! -Sunday morning our Homeless Ministry delivered much needed food and winter clothing to nearly a 120 men and women downtown. -Twice a year when the time changes, we have special morning session at church (an hour before the service) called P.E.. We serve breakfast and people gather into the fellowship hall and one by one, they share what God has done or is doing in their lives. Listening to 40+ people share how God is blessing their lives is powerful and humbling. -Yesterday’s service was just over the top. The church was full, people were worshipping and connecting with God, discovering Jesus and because of Him, there is no need to hide because we are wounded and scarred. The end of the service left me with chills! Glad we ordered more chairs last week. -Last night our youth ministry had a bonfire at the church and had nearly 30 kids came. At the end of the night, they gathered around the fire, spontaneously worshipping, singing “10,000 Reasons.” YouTube the song if you are unaware of it! Middle and High School students are getting it! -Also last night our Autism (Special Need’s) Ministry went bowling. Nearly 60 people met at Dixie Bowl and had an incredibly-fun time. I love spending with these people. They energize and motivate me! What week for Life Church Louisville! What a week for our community! What a week for Michele and I. Had we had quit, we would have missed all that God had planned for us to do. Please don’t interpret what I am saying as a shameless brag about our church and staff. That’s not the point. The events of this week is nothing more than a testimony of what God can do when people refuse to quit, refuse to give in and decide they are going to hold onto the promises of God! We realized He had a plan, He had a purpose and He had a great future in store for us! The same can happen in your relationships, marriage, career, diet, health change…anything. PERSEVERE! Take that verse and insert your name in the middle of it! Hold on, don’t ever give up and never quit! God’s plan is working, His future is coming and it is better than you could ever imagine!
