MALABAG COMMITS FUNDING TOWARDS WEIGHTLIFTING GYMS By Mahlon WINSTON “Hanuabada has shown that it can produce quality athletes, and all acknowledgements should go to Steven Kari and Dika Toua for their wonderful achievement in winning Gold for PNG. What more can you ask for them.” These were words on Friday from a very animated Moresby North-West MP and Minister for Health Michael Malabag during the welcome home reception for Dika and Steven at the big village. Minister Malabag went on to say that Sports is all about Unity as we have seen that the achievements of Steven and Dika has brought together the whole nation of Papua New Guinea as one. While he acknowledges the Prime Minister and the PNG Government for their incentives he said the Government should not have waited until now, he said these incentives and commitments should have been there at the first place. “As we congratulate Dika and Steven, the officials and Management of Team PNG to Commonwealth Games for their effort and hard work in making us proud let us also remember the people behind Dika and Stevens life from the start and I would like to say a big thank you and acknowledge their coach Mr Douglas Mea who was there for them from the beginning of their sporting career. For nurturing, training and developing them to be where they are now,” said Minister Malabag. With that the Minister made a pledge to build the Hanuabada Gym where it all started for Dika and Steven with K100, 000 for Mr Douglas Mea and his Weightlifting Gym while another K50, 000 was pledged for Dika’s Gym beside their family home in the village.
