MANCHESTER, NH- On Monday, May 05, 2014, at about 9:30 AM, Manchester police responded to the bank of America at 728 Massabesic Street for a reported robbery. On arrival, Ofc. Jamie Branch met with the employees who reported that a man armed with a knife had just robbed the bank of an undisclosed amount of cash. According to the tellers, the man entered the bank, bypassing several customers waiting in line as he approached the teller windows brandishing a large knife. He shoved a dark colored back pack with a brown suede bottom through the first teller window, demanding it be filled with cash. When that first teller advised the suspect she had no money, he retrieved the bag and shoved it through the adjacent teller window, again demanding cash. The suspect retrieved the bag, which had been filled with some cash by teller, and ran out the door still wielding the knife in his hand. Witnesses outside the bank saw the suspect run west from the bank and two were able to follow after him in their vehicle, last spotting the suspect running to the rear of a Valley Street address, just east of Jewett Street. A number of officers converged on the area including members of Manchester SWAT, conducting a search of several yards and residences in the area. Nearby Hallsville School was placed lock down as a precautionary measure with a School Resource Officer responding to the school to assist as needed. Despite an extensive search of that neighborhood for several hours, the suspect was not located and remains at large. He is described as a white male or light skinned black male, about 6’00 tall and 170 pounds wearing all black clothing, including a black hooded sweatshirt with a lighter colored lining. The hood was worn up over a black ski mask which covered his face. The suspect carried a black back pack with a brown suede bottom and wore white, garden style gloves. The same bank had been robbed by a masked man armed with a gun just before 9:30 AM on Monday, March 17, 2014. In a similar manner, that suspect also produced a back pack and ordered the teller to fill it with cash. He was described as a male, about 6’00 tall with a thin build wearing a black hooded jacket covered in a lighter colored plaid design. He also wore white gloves and carried a red back pack with a black bottom and black straps and a YWCA logo on the front. There is no known connection between at this time.
