MARITAL FORMATION 101 (97) – CONFLICT MANAGEMENT (TRANSFER MARKET) Going into the ‘transfer market’ to get a new player must be carefully done because a wrong player can unsettle the good rhythm of any team. How many women have become careless because they brought in a house-help thereby exposing their men to household temptation. A woman once brought her house-help who had just been hired to take care of a 6-month old baby to me for interviews and I asked the 17-year-old girl what she would do if the child kept crying after she had done everything to get her to stop crying? Her response stunned us all as she said: ’Oga, I go enter chemist go buy sleeping tablet and I go give the baby make she sleep’. What then must you look out for in hiring a house-help? Never hire a house-help without: (1) Having a marital vision and core values because they help you develop an operational manual for your home. (2) Having a training system because you don’t expect him/her to perfectly fit into your team without clear understanding of how your home runs. (3) Comprehensive medical/psychological screening, at least every 6 months. (4) Carefully investigating her background and history because you don’t want strange spirits in your home. (5) Clear analysis of your needs, perhaps a housekeeper may serve you better. (6) Ascertaining her real age because it is a criminal offence to hire a house-help that is less than 18 years old. (7) Prayerfully considering your choice because the heart of man is deceitful and desperately wicked. (8) Having clear plans on how to make her life better because once he/she can’t picture a desirable future she could unsettle your team. (9) Planning to be personally responsible for your family because you don’t want your children to become professors of Africa Magic in your absence. To be continued. I honour you
