NO. 78 SUMMER NIGHTS--JOHN TRAVOLTA & OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN (#5, 1978, Grease) The third of four songs from the motion picture Grease in this countdown is the ONLY song in this countdown to actually come from the original play version of the early 1970s written by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, It is used in the early part of the movie after both Danny (played by John Travolta) and Sandy (played by Olivia Newton-John) describe their summer romances, he to his T-Birds, the gang hes the leader of and she to the Pink Ladies, who she comes across at lunch break at Rydell High for the first time as shes a new student. The whole cast of the movie get involved in this duet by Travolta and Newton-John and the song did well, peaking at No. 5 in September 1978, the first of two duets between the two in this countdown (you could guess the other one I am sure!).
