MARRIAGE AS GENERIC The union of man and woman, of husband and wife, to live happily ever after…CUT! STOP! Living, eating, sleeping, doing pretty much everything with this one person. I am sure after a while it becomes not only tiresome but boring. You become endowed to your partner, and what you had when you were single vanishes, in one instance, with two words, ‘I do’. Marriage is a big responsibility, a humongous burden to have on your shoulder as it limits you as a person. Your independence has been stripped away to fall for the ‘glory’ that comes from marriage. In this segment I would like to discuss young marriages. In a typical ethnic suburb, one gets analysed and judged on basic characteristics by parents whom are even unknown of. A girl’s looks, height, education status, whether she is able to cook and provide for a household. A girl is immediately placed into a category in which they become potential daughter in laws for traditionalist mothers. Young people, HELLO?? You have got a whole life time in front of you. Improve yourself as a person, develop your personality, educate yourselves and gain enough experience in order to make the choices that come about later in life. We are young and we are able. Limiting ourselves to a life based upon marriage, is not living at all. You will only be closing yourself off from all the opportunities that would arise.
