MEET ADAM!! The shelter was no Garden of Eden for Adam. This four-year-old Australian Cattle Dog-Hound mix arrived as a stray at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina on July 29th. Poor Adam was so intimidated by his new surroundings that it took the staff several days to coax him out of the concrete intake building so he could be processed and moved to the kennel run with the other large dogs. And even then, he was terribly stressed. Adding to Adams woes was his heartworm positive status. With the shelter overflowing, Adam ended up on the dreaded Put-To-Sleep list for October 1st. On September 24th, in an effort to save Adam, RADAR provided an offer to assist with his heartworm treatment as an incentive for a rescue to take him. But still there was no interest. He managed to get a brief reprieve from his October 1st deadline. To show how good Adam could be away from the shelter environment, he was taken to an adoption event. He was a big hit! On October 13th, Pound Pup Rescue in the Carolinas agreed to take him. Even better, they had approved adopters waiting for Adam in New Jersey! He received his heartworm treatment on November 12th Susan Blakeney, RADARs liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, met with Adam at the shelter and took many of his photos. She had this to share with us: Adam has superstar good looks and he really knew how to work the camera! He was a mild-mannered guy, more Clark Kent than Superman. He was polite on our walk, and looked for cues and was responsive to the sound of my voice. He was not quite ready to snuggle up for big petting sessions yet, but he did give me a tiny kiss on the hand when I took him back to his kennel.
