MEGA PURSUITS Maybe the word MEGA by now is a taboo word, as it depicts in reality of both successes as well as downfalls of individuals to church leaders that represents the whole church be it local to worldwide. The word mega does draw potential positive to negative criticism especially when there is an exemplary state of the church that has drawn either a negative or a positive influence to itself, making headlines that either gains our support or otherwise. Like it or not, negativity not only draws greater viewers and responses in the general media & advertising, but more so when negativity reaps its highest effect, especially when it concerns this particular word, “exposed”. As Christians, hearing, reading, watching news of worldly individuals, celebrities to companies around the world who have been exposed due to some sort of negligence is an all familiar story we read and dismiss. But when it concerns the church or its leadership, something different brews within, it is grieve. If at all, the role of the church are to be role models for society, that dismisses and lack thereof credibility in moral standing and be the voice of justification and clarity to right and wrong, love and forgiveness. If at all, that the church is to create some sort of impact in the eyes of the world, the church is to be exhorted, instead of being exposed. For the Church to be exposed is a detrimental effect to society, viewing the establishment that supposedly represents GOD, that has failed the standards of any moral decadence. It not only stumble believers but it disarms the church of its authority, voice, spirituality, influence, position in society. It further dismembers the Body Of Christ in the process. Whether the issues are with finances to visual excellence and state of the art technology for the many presentations or engagement we call worship in the church and other sectors, the word of caution to recognize is PURSUIT. What are we pursuing? What is the church in pursuit of? God’s agenda or men? I believe one of many many distracting points in the name of pursuit, is technology, is a key word in this day and age of the church in pursuit of better services, convenience and communication. Indeed technology in the current time, seems to be the tool to advocate and influence the masses at a click of a button. With this, indeed the drawing strategy for the current and very visual generation may be the key to growth, mega growth, setting trendy and stimulating methods to further draw them in, complimenting the phase of available technology of mipads, iphones to androids etc. What is fearful in this day and age of being technology savy in the church is we lose the tactful sovereignty for GOD and of Him. My point is, technology visually stimulates the mind, but disengages the body to be present. “we no longer need to go to church as the convenience of technology no longer requires us to inconvene ourselves to be present” The Church is in danger of its pursuit through technology that may simply just advocate convenience “ GOD at your finger-tips” which also will imply, God at your convenience. I believe it is with such unassuming pursuits, whether in technology or others that may cripple or disarm the church from her truest identity which is of spiritual authority, empowerment, empowered and ordained by GOD at HIS sovereign will. Faith should not be an evolution made to appeal to men, but an appointment with GOD. When you have made an appointment for an interview for a job, how would your preparation be? What more with HIM? How would your approach and posture be during the interview? Do you render the same posture and approach with HIM?
