MESSAGE TO THE UC RIVERSIDE COMMUNITY Brush Fire to East of Campus, No Current Concerns for Commencement Special Notice to the UCR Community: 3:30 p.m., Friday, June 20, 2013 Riverside firefighters are currently battling a fire, which has sent a large plume of smoke over northeast Riverside. The fire started shortly before 2 p.m. near Columbia and Michigan Avenue. Flames are spreading gradually to the northeast, up Sugarloaf Mountain, behind UC Riverside. Fire fighters are battling the two-alarm blaze with engine crews and helicopters dropping water over the mountain. Fire crews are protecting homes and no buildings have been damaged. No injuries were reported. UCPD has been informed by the City of Riverside Police that traffic backups related to the fire may be occurring at locations Northeast of campus. At this time the campus and campus events are not in danger, and commencement will proceed as scheduled.
