METL analysis shows that Indian production system is different from Japanese. Indian manufacturing has to focus on complexity and variety - a 50:50 combination of labour and automation. Japanese production system - committed high cost labour, predictable supply chain, small lot manufacturing; Indian production system - skill levels of labour varying, unpredictable supply chain, low cost labour, ability to handle complexity and uncertainty is high.
