MINISTER GAN: RISING HEALTHCARE COST DUE TO SINGAPOREAN NOT STAYING HEALTHY. SO PM LEE & MINISTERS ARE HEADING IN A DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS! Can AVA be trusted to safeguard Spores health and food standards? Lee Hsien Loong told Abe, Japanese prime minister, on 30th May 2014 that all ban on food products from Japan (following the Fukushima Nuclear Disaster) will be lifted. Then the next day the AVA (Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore) “announced on May 31 [2014] that it would lift restrictions on all Japanese food imports.” So it’s a case of the AVA, in charge of health and safety of foods in Singapore, taking its cue from the Prime Minister of Singapore on matters regarding the health-and-safety of foods. Should not it be the other way round? That PM Lee wait for the green light from the AVA before he made the announcement to Abe regarding the lifting of the ban.Or was it because of some FTA profits to be made that all caution of food safety is ditched down the drain? mofa.go.jp/fp/nsp/page4e_000086.html channelnewsasia/news/singapore/fukushima-food-imports/1254876.html?cid=FBSG The FDA ( Food and Drug Administration of the USA) was one of the first to impose a ban on the imports of milk and fresh fruit and vegetables from areas near the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant following the earthquake and tsumani. online.wsj/news/articles/SB10001424052748703362904576218380234550522 So far, the ban has not been lifted. The website of the FDA on this matter reads: “What is FDA doing to ensure the safety of products imported from Japan? …FDA’s screening at U.S. borders will remain vigilant and will be augmented with radiation screening of shipments. fda.gov/newsevents/publichealthfocus/ucm247403.htm
