MOBILE PHONES Some misleading information is circulating that relates to the theft of mobile phones, particularly something about sending an email to [email protected]. This goes to a police office in India and will not be acted upon. None of the Networks will attempt to track your cell unless they receive a written request from SAPS. For clarity, this is the correct procedure: Firstly, always note down the IMEI number of your cell phone and keep it somewhere safe. You can find this by dialling *#06# on your handset. If your cell is lost or stolen then you must inform your Network provider to stop a thief running up costly bills for you. Call your provider as follows: Cell C: 140 from Cell C numbers or 084 140 from other cellular phone networks MTN: 808 from MTN numbers or 0831 808 from a landline or other networks Vodacom: 111 from a Vodacom number or 082-111 from a landline You will receive a reference number to prove that your cellular phone has been blacklisted. Report the loss of your cellular phone to your nearest police station by providing the reference number of your blacklisted cellular phone and the IMEI number. The police will then register a case.
