MONCTON - Screenwriting Summer Workshop The Instructor: Screenwriter Lars Davidson – Bio Lars grew up in a large family in Cape Breton, NS. His experience with motion picture began early, participating as a child-extra on “Echoes of a Summer,” starring Richard Harris and Jodie Foster, filmed in Chester, NS in 1974. Lars experimented with his father’s Super 8 film camera throughout his teens. In the late 70s, Lars travelled to Europe where he attended the Berlin and Paris film festivals. His chance encounter with mythologist and writer Joseph Campbell (author of “The Masks of God” and “Hero With a Thousand Faces”) in La Chartres, a small town in France, set Lars on course to becoming a writer. In 1990, Lars graduated with a diploma in Journalism at Holland College and he wrote for several newspapers and magazines for the next five years. Finishing his first feature screenplay, Lars sold his car and hopped on a plane to LA. His experience in Los Angeles included landing in Spielberg’s office at Universal within 72 hours. Three days later, Lars was a guest of Amblin Entertainment on the set of Jurassic Park (soundstage on Warner Bros. lot). On this, his first trip to L.A., Lars was able to establish relationships with some key people at Universal, Warner Bros., and Paramount and as a result he was given permission to study Hollywood filmmaking from a studio perspective, having access to most departments within the three studios. Two years later, Lars sold his first script, an action-adventure, A Deeper Danger, to Paragon Entertainment for six figures. His romantic-comedy, The It Girl, sold to Paramount, where Lars negotiated his own deal and garnered credit for co-producer. Lars is also a produced playwright and has doubled for Michael York (Road To Avonlea), and Liam Neeson (K-19 The Widowmaker). Lars has been represented by CAA, William Morris, and Writers & Artists Agency and has studied copyright law, entertainment law, script budgeting, financing, and above-the-line contracting. Lars has taught screenwriting courses and workshops in Los Angeles, Halifax, Fredericton, and PEI.
