MONDAY, 12/8/14 HISTORY. Judges 7:19-25 “An Unusual Victory!” (By Barry) WORSHIP: This is a cool song. It is NOT a typical worship song. Instead of a song to God, this is kind of a song FROM God. Let me know what you think! https://youtube/watch?v=X-vU43y6Rhg SCRIPTURE: blueletterbible.org/Bible.cfm?b=Jdg&c=7&t=NLT#s=218019 This battle was over before it even began. Check it out! 19 It was just after midnight, after the changing of the guard, when Gideon and the 100 men with him reached the edge of the Midianite camp. Suddenly, they blew the rams’ horns and broke their clay jars. 20 Then all three groups blew their horns and broke their jars. They held the blazing torches in their left hands and the horns in their right hands, and they all shouted, “A sword for the LORD and for Gideon!” 21 Each man stood at his position around the camp and watched as all the Midianites rushed around in a panic, shouting as they ran to escape. 22 When the 300 Israelites blew their rams’ horns, the LORD caused the warriors in the camp to fight against each other with their swords. Those who were not killed fled to places as far away as Beth-shittah near Zererah and to the border of Abel-meholah near Tabbath. 23 Then Gideon sent for the warriors of Naphtali, Asher, and Manasseh, who joined in chasing the army of Midian. 24 Gideon also sent messengers throughout the hill country of Ephraim, saying, “Come down to attack the Midianites. Cut them off at the shallow crossings of the Jordan River at Beth-barah.” So all the men of Ephraim did as they were told. 25 They captured Oreb and Zeeb, the two Midianite commanders, killing Oreb at the rock of Oreb, and Zeeb at the winepress of Zeeb. And they continued to chase the Midianites. Afterward the Israelites brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon, who was by the Jordan River. THOUGHTS & QUESTIONS: —1. 3OO men, separated into three teams, are supposed to go into battle against a vicious enemy that is numbered in the thousands. How could they have the courage for such a fight? How could they possibly win? —2. The men of Israel were confident. Gideon had been shown a dream, and they just knew victory was coming their way. They didnt know how, but they knew it would happen. —3. Did you see how this miraculous victory occurred? Do you understand now what Gideon’s strategy was all about? Israel didn’t thousands of warriors. They had God on their side! How would your “battles” be different if you knew God was taking care of things? —4. Did you notice how unusual this “battle” was? The Israelites didn’t have to fight the Midianites. The Midianties were so confused that they began fighting themselves! —5. This passage gives us a great picture into the imagination of God. He could have given Gideon and the Israelites victory any number of ways. So, why did he choose to reduce their army all the way down to 300, then pretty much have the enemy fight themselves? What do you think God was up to? —6. This is a cool story. So, how does it apply to you? Who are your “Enemies”? What kinds of “battles” do you fight? What kinds of “Strategy” do you use? Should you try a different “Strategy”? Can you think of situations where God is asking you to “fight” in a different way than normal? I would love to hear your thoughts! PRAYER: A.C.T.S.
