Glen Maxey with Texas Democratic Party and former state legislator wrote in Facebook group, What Happens in Texas October 1 at 10:14pm · Austin, TX · Edited · I see a lot of random info around the internet today about voting questions. So Id like to do some laymans info on the law. REGISTER TO VOTE You must be registered to vote before next Monday, Oct 6th. A form postmarked that day is in time. voterregistration.txdemocrats.org -- If you have moved within your county, you will be able to update your address at your polling place when you vote (although doing so before Monday is better) -- You update an address by filling out a Voter Registration Card just like registering to vote the first time. voterregistration.txdemocrats.org -- If you have moved to a different Texas County, you must register in the new county to vote. If you do not, you can only vote a limited statewide ballot in your main early voting location (the courthouse in most counties) during early voting. VOTING BY MAIL You can vote by mail if you will be 65 or older, are disabled, or will be out of your county during all of early voting and election day. You can submit a signed application through 5 pm on Oct 24th to your early voting clerk. It must be signed and mailed or faxed (you cant walk it in). It must be IN the office, not just postmarked, on or before October 24th. You can download an application at: votebymail.txdemocrats.org VOTER ID You must have one of the seven approved Texas IDs and they must be current by date and not expired more than 60 days. (Drivers License, Texas ID, Passport, Naturalization Card, Veterans Card with picture, Military ID with pic, Election ID Card.) The names must be substantially similar (DO NOT have to be exactly the same) ex. William, Guillermo, Willie, Bill and Billy are acceptable if the real name is William. The address DOES NOT have to match between the Voter Registration and ID.
