MONIFIETH ATHLETIC U15s – 1 DUNDEE WEST U15s - 0 Team (3-4-1-2): Ralston; Barr, Westwater, Scobie; McAinsh, Matchett, Gallacher, McNeill; Donaghey; Pickett, Tosh Subs: Kerr, Hush, McLaren, Sandeman, Nicol, Jamieson This second round Scottish Cup tie proved to be a pulsating game! Monifieth rung the changes from the recent league game versus West two weeks earlier, as Ralston replaced Kerr, and post-suspension Westwater returned to sweeper – allowing Matchett to move into midfield for a man-marking role on West’s play-maker Ben Russell. Last season’s top goal-scorer, Tosh also returned to the starting eleven after a suspension. As was the case a fortnight ago, the first half was edged by Monifieth – and the closest effort was a Scobie header which just drifted past the post with the visitors’ keeper beat. HT 0-0 The second half flowed from end to end as both sides pressed for the vital opening goal. On the hour, Hush was tripped inside the box and the referee had no choice but to award the penalty. Despite a crisp strike into the corner, McNeill saw his penalty brilliantly saved. West then went close twice as Ralston firstly parried a fierce shot away and then the keeper - after a good old goalmouth stramash - produced a wonder fingertip save onto the post. As the game edged towards extra-time, Monifieth were awarded another stonewall penalty with just five minutes to go. This time Matchett dribbled past three West defenders before being upended inside the area. McNeill was handed the task again, and left wing-back coolly slotted into the corner – sending the keeper the wrong way – for the winner! FT 1-0 In a great team performance, best for Monifieth were Ralston, Westwater, Scobie, Matchett and MOTM was the tireless Robbie Gallacher. Finally, a big thank you to Ian Scobie of I & B Decorators, Dundee for the new third kit.
