MONKEY vs MONKEE WALKS - The following article appeared in the Roundalab Journal- WINTER EDITION. Author is Susie Rotscheid. I remember when I first learned the figure “monkey walks” and thinking that “this is not how monkeys walk.” So in other dances when they had that figure, I just did it the way we were shown. Then one of our dancers told me that the figure is not named after the animal, but the rock band, The Monkees. If you go online to YouTube, for example, you can see how The Monkees did their famous Monkee Walk. Now the figure makes more sense to me – maybe to you too?
