MOSQUITO #2 is almost READY TO GO Currently in final approach on Vancouver Island, presumably soon to return to Bob Jens private hanger at YVR to join his Spitfire Mk 16. Sadly (in my view) there are strong rumours that both of these birds will large be engine runs only a couple of times a year once the total rebuild is completed and the aircraft returned to Vancouver, though both will be fully capable of flight. We may see the Mosquito fly in, maybe. There are widely differing feelings about keeping these as new rebuilds as static dodos, museum pieces, or taking the risk of accident and keeping them where they were designed and built to be, in the air. I see both sides with great clarity, but at the end of the day I feel that nothing lasts forever and these should be flown regularly. However, Bob Jens has sunk his private fortune into these total restorations of two privately owned aircraft and he is totally entitled to keep them mothballed in his private hanger for his private enjoyment! However, they would make beautiful centre-pieces for the Aviation Heritage Centre of Excellence for British Columbia
