MOVIE FACTS & Trivia... with Alfredo-james Pacino.. The Chair Man... that was my nick name in the 1980s and 90s.. why.. because i sold chairs and tables and barstools to just about every one!! new york to Hollywood. Restaurants, clubs, Discos, TV, and Motion Pictures.. you name it.... they all came to me.. If you ever wondered why some films cost so much to make... here is one reason why. The set designer on scent of a woman staring Al Pacino ( he plays a Blind Man) speced the main ball room in the Pierre Hotel in New york city for the dancing scene. The hotel agreed to rent them the space for filming.. but they refused to let them use an ruin their new chairs. So.. the set designer asked me to duplicate and rent them the 100 high end chairs they needed.. of course I said sure!.. but it will cost you!. The chairs as seen in the enclosed photos... cost them $225.00 each or $25,000. dollars..( i wound up buying them back at a large discout and selling them to an italian restaurant in westchester) just for one 10 minute scene in the movie.... thats why films cost millions... to make.
