MR. MALAWI BODYBUILDING CONTEST SLATED FOR DECEMBER 15-WBAM: Weightlifting and Bodybuilding Association of Malawi (WBAM) has announced that it will host this year’s Mr. Malawi Bodybuilding Contest on December 15 in Lilongwe. According to WBAM President Richard Kuwali the association failed to sponsor the contest for the past three months due to lack of funding. “But since the association managed to allocate K1million from the Sports Council to conduct the annual event, we will go ahead,” said Kuwali. A number of companies have since shown interest to sponsor the contest which was previously sponsored by ETG Agro Tractors. On the other hand WBAM general secretary Harold Mwayang’ana said they still expect some well-wishers to support them. “We really thank Sports Council for allowing us to use part of our annual subvention to hold the competition. Nevertheless we expect others to come forward and support us whether in cash or kind,” he said. The association further revealed that this years winner’s prize has been increased from last year’s K200 000 to K250 000, Runner-up and third-placed bodybuilders are expected to receive K150 000 and K100 000, respectively while those in fourth and fifth positions will get K60 000 each. This years contest will see Four-time champion Henry Master is set to defend the title against contention from his runner-up Yasin ‘Ichocho’ Suwedi and other athletes such as Thoko Kakhongwe. Our reporters speaking to Mr. Malawi number two bodybuilder, Ichocho Yasin Suwedi said they were worried with numerous changes regarding the competition. “We have been in the gym for some time now and we don’t know whether competition will take place. The problem is that they keep on changing the dates and this really affects our training programme,” he said.
