MU members met yesterday for a very informative talk on OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD - we heard that the boxes that have been filled from people in the four churches in the benefice will be sent out to KYRGYZSTAN where they will be distributed by teams from churches to children who have never received a Christmas Gift and will never get another one - there is apparently no culture of giving or receiving gifts in this part of the world. This scheme allows the Christian minority who in a country that suffers from ethinic conflict to make contact with people from other backgrounds. It is hoped that somewhere in excess of 10,000 shoe boxes will be filled in Northamptonshire alone. SAMIRITANS PURSE have been operating this scheme for the past 22 years and globally have been able to send over 100 million gift filled shoeboxes to needy children in 130 countries.
