MUST READ: Yesterday, in a powerful op-ed The New York Times criticized #NYPD officers and the union for turning their backs to Mayor Bill de Blasio and trying to intentionally unravel the social fabric of NYC. Since the tragic killing of Officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu officers have protested City Hall by suspending Broken Windows policing, or the hyper enforcement of low-level, nonviolent violations. This from the Times: The madness has to stop. The problem is not that a two-week suspension of “broken windows” policing is going to unleash chaos in the city. The problem is that cops who refuse to do their jobs and revel in showing contempt to their civilian leaders are damaging the social order all by themselves. The Times went on to say: Mr. Bratton’s faith in “broken windows” needs rethinking. But nothing will be fixed as long as police officers are refusing to do their jobs. Sound off in the comments.
