MY THOUGHTS ON THE BIN LADEN SHOOTER Many of you have asked - TopicsExpress

MY THOUGHTS ON THE BIN LADEN SHOOTER Many of you have asked what my thoughts are on the recent media surrounding the Bin Laden Shooter. Heres what I have to say, but first...be advised, this is only my statement, not the Navys position or the position of the SEAL community. I know that Robs media account of the actions that day are drawing large amounts of attention both positive and negative. Im seeing comments posted everywhere about SEAL Team members writing books and doing interviews about their combat experiences. These are my thoughts as I remove myself for a moment from the brotherhood. Heres the deal. These guys have signed up to live a very uncommon life. They gave up the right to lead a normal life, the 9-5 is non-existent in their job life. They have gone through some of the most intense military training in the world, FOR A YEAR. That is before they even step foot inside a SEAL compound. They see impossible as possible, they love each other as brothers, and chose in advance to die for each other and you, if the job requires...no questions asked, and have proven such. The same can be said for any combat unit or military man or woman. In my opinion if you are currently serving or have served, I owe you a debt of gratitude and my response to you as a military member, whether I agree with you or not, will always reflect that. I appreciate you and your sacrifice. Some of the negative comments are coming from inside the military community. I get it, I really do. You dont like it that some of the guys are talking to members of the media, or movies are being made to tell their stories. Lets not forget that much of the media surrounding the SEAL community has come on the heels of incredible tragedy. Many of my closest friends, teammates, a shooting partner/swim buddy, a roommate, a brother of a dear friend of mine, etc...have died serving in the SEAL Teams. I love them and honor their memory. Now, having said that. I believe that if a military member, SEAL Team guy wants to tell his story, I am not going to be able to stop him. But I would advise him to clear with military authorities his accounts of what he wants to disclose before speaking publicly or to the media. I believe he maintains that duty even after separation from his community and military. The authorities have their duty as well, to continue conducting military operations as successfully and safely as possible. Unfortunately, good guys arent the only ones that watch the news or movies. Booger eaters have televisions as well. I recently was on a media push for Navy SEALs, Their Untold Stories, a documentary that I co-produced (which was fully supported by the Navy, DoD and Naval Special Warfare Command). A producer at CBS in NYC asked, my Co-Producer, Bill Doyle, the films Publicist and me, What is your position on the UBL Shooter? I simply said, Robs a big boy. He makes his own decisions for his reasons, though I have no idea what those may be. But if he has cleared his story with the powers that be, DoD, Big Navy, State Dept and the SEAL Community, and they have given him permission to move forward with his story, hes good to go. However, if he hasnt, then he may have some difficult bridges to cross in the near and distant future. As for my personal opinions, they remain just that, my personal opinions. The news producer just said fair enough. That was the end of the conversation. Love God, Love People, bram
