“MYRTLE BEACH 400” MARKS MODIFIED RACING RETURN TO THE BEACH KOMA Unwind Modified Madness Series Brings the “Mod Squad” Back to the Beach (King, NC): Open wheel Modified racing returns to the Myrtle Beach Speedway for the first time in several years. The 600+ horsepower rockets were a staple at Myrtle Beach for many years with the old Southern Modified Race Tour (SMART) but have made only one trip there since 2005. “We are extremely happy to be able to bring the KOMA Unwind Modified Madness Series back to Myrtle Beach Speedway”, said series Director, Randy Myers. “We have been working with Bob Lutz and his track Manager Steve Zacharias since mid-February to make this happen. Bob Lutz is quite progressive in his approach to promoting. The track features Late Model Stocks and support divisions several times during the season as well as the NASCAR Driving Experience. They also promote concerts, car shows and many other events throughout the year and we are glad to be a part of the action there. Many of you will recognize Steve’s last name as a staple in Modified racing in the Northeast and his experience and connections will probably bring some cars from that area. Zacharias has even hinted he may climb back in the seat for this event. We will have many of the KOMA Unwind Modified Madness Series top teams here for the final event of the inaugural season for the tour. Tim Brown, Jeremy Mayfield, the Myers Brothers, Burt and Jason, Spencer Davis in the Hillbilly Racing Modified, John Sutton, Bobby Sheffield, “Tiger” Tommy Neal, Mike Speeney, Jimmy Wallace and several more will headline the KOMA Unwind cars”, Myers said. As an added bonus, both halves of the “Myrtle Beach 400”, the Modifieds and the NWAAS Late Model Stocks will be televised on a tape delay basis on the American Sports Network, the producers of “Three Wide Live” and the “Denny Hamlin Invitational”. Myrtle Beach Speedway GM Steve Zacharias had this to say on the expansion of the 400 weekend, “I think this is a great time in Myrtle Beach 400 history with the addition of the Modifieds. We are creating something we see becoming a tradition for the Myrtle Beach 400 weekend. This will also create an opportunity for both the Late Model Stock and Modified teams to showcase their talents across the country with the television deal that comes along with the event.” “The Myrtle Beach 400” is set for November 22 and 23. It will feature the KOMA Unwind Modified Madness series, the NWAAS Late Model Stocks and the Myrtle Beach Super Truck in action.
