This photography hike will take place at Lakeland Highlands Scrub which was once beach-front property believe it or not! Fall Bird Migration NatureFest 2012 What to Expect? Initial surveys indicate the Lakeland Highlands property is home to at least five rare plant species, as well as gopher tortoises, eastern indigo snakes, Florida Scrub-jays and a number of wading bird species. The omnivorous raccoon also calls the scrub community home and forages at night for available food including crayfish, snails, frogs, turtles, insects, rodents, eggs, fruits and nuts. Your Excursion Guide: Herman Moulden As a volunteer site steward with Polk County Environmental lands program, and a 43 year career as a police officer and finger print specialist with the Lakeland Police Department and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, this guide has found a perfect marriage of the two with his passion of macro-photography.
