Made it through my first week of Fall classes. Classes are - TopicsExpress

Made it through my first week of Fall classes. Classes are definitely going to be different this semester compared to what I was used to in exercise science classes. I may actually have to study this semester. LOL I must admit I felt a little intimidated when I first entered my molecular oncology class because Ive only taken the first biology class and not any molecular biology or cell biology or anything like that, plus the looks I received when I introduced myself with exercise science as my major and being the only person in the class not currently working on a PhD. That rapidly went away, however, when the professor started talking and asking questions and nobody else in the room knew how the body works. Just FYI if you are planning to do any kind of a degree in medicine, take some anatomy and physiology classes, some classes in nutritional science, and some classes in the way exercise and other things affect metabolism. And if you are going to turn your nose up at the person majoring in dumbbells, at least be smarter than them. I may have to teach myself some cellular biology (Hitting up the internet this week for some cheap books but if any of my friends have any I can borrow, please let me know), but I dont see how you can possibly comprehend the cellular level stuff and be able to apply it without knowing the bigger picture of how a few cells can impact the whole body. I was worried this class would be over my head, but now I know that with a little work I am going to knock it out of the park. My statistics class is going to be a blast! My professor is a parrot-head. Literally, he was wearing a Hawaiian shirt covered in parrots. He also made reference to several things that make me think he is an old hippie. I love a nice relaxed environment for studying something as complicated as stats, so this should be fun. Not to mention that the class is basically a refresher on previous stats classes with some computer programming for doing the calculations. Our first assignment made me feel like I was back in Middle School learning to program the Apple2E. Yeah, its a new programming language to learn, but you cant ever go wrong making me feel nostalgic while learning something new. My other class is Thesis, which is going to be fun! Im almost done writing my thesis proposal, so the tough part of the lit review is almost over. Everything else will be revisions, presentations, and playing in the lab. Cant wait to get my hands on that ultrasound body fat analyser!!!! Sorry, I may be an exercise nut, but Im also a techno-geek so the new toys are exciting! Oh, and helping with research is exciting too, of course. ;-)
