It is vital that all players attend every training session in the lead up to the final. Under-16 Division 1 League Final Our U-16 team lost out narrowly to Monaghan Harps on Saturday last in the Division 1 League Final. Trailing by 3-4 to no score after a nightmare opening quarter they produced a superb rally to reduce the deficit to six points at the interval. The revival continued after the break despite playing against the wind and with ten minutes remaining the deficit was down to a single point. Missed scoring opportunities however proved costly in the end with the final score reading Magheracloone 3-9 Monaghan Harps 3-11. This was a tremendous team effort and the character the team showed in adversity bodes well for the future. To the management of the team James Kieran, Johnny Smith, Ronan Freeman & Declan Mc Cahey a big thank you for your enthusiasm and commitment throughout the season. Team: Jack Kirk (Capt.), Fergal Goodman, Conor Cassin, Conall Rooney, Peter Finnegan, Killian Mc Nally, Ronan Burns, Padraig Mc Mahon, Liam Óg Murray, Daniel Babington, Luke Mc Kenna, Niall Marron, Aidan Carolan, Damien Rudden, Barry Kieran. Under-11 On Saturday last our U11 team travelled to the Emyvale to take part in the clubs annual U11 Brendan Colton (BC) Blitz in St Oliver Plunkett Park. This was the 11th Anniversary of the BC Blitz with teams from Monaghan, Tyrone, Armagh and Fermanagh taking part. This blitz although it is very competitive has special emphasis on improving the skill of point taking and therefore a goal in the BC Blitz will count as a point. In round one they comfortably overcame Scotstown with a winning margin of 8 points. In round two it was a very strong Keady outfit who won on a score line of Magheracloone 3 Keady 7. The lads regrouped and prepared for round three where they ran out comfortable winners with the final score Magheracloone 13 Rock St. Pats 3. This gallant young side continued their winning ways in round four beating Newtownbutler by two points. This result earned them a place in the semi-final where the hosts Emyvale provided the opposition. With tiring bodies this was a tough and keenly contested match, with both teams on 3 points each at the final whistle extra time was played and the stronger Magheracloone team emerged victorious Emyvale 3 Magheracloone 6 and a place in the final their reward. As expected it was Keady we had to play again in the final. With the exertion of the games starting to tell the intensity fell off and Keady proved too strong and they lifted the Cup as deserved winners Keady 10 Magheracloone 5. This was a very enjoyable well organised competition for the lads, they were pitted against teams from higher divisions and they really equipped themselves very well throughout. Mentors Francis Fox & Gary Byrne would like to thank all involved and the Colton family for a very successful and enjoyable tournament.
