Mainly Dry & Warm, Though Some Showers A ridge of high pressure - TopicsExpress

Mainly Dry & Warm, Though Some Showers A ridge of high pressure building from the south will ensure most places will be settled with plenty of dry weather over the weekend. And although there will be alot of cloud around, where the sun does come out, it will feel pleasantly warm with temperatures rising to above average for early October. Today will be generally dry across England and Wales, though there is alot of cloud around this morning, thick enough to bring some patchy light rain and drizzle in places. As we head through late morning and into the afternoon, we should see the cloud break up in many places to allow some warm sunny spells, allowing temperatures to lift to around 18-21C. Though some places in the north and east may remain rather cloudy at times, with a few light showers still possible. For Scotland and Northern Ireland, a similar picture - a few showers around at first, but cloud should break to allow sunny spells to develop - with temperatures rising to around 16-17C. Cloudier across the northwest Highlands and the Western Isles, with rain arriving later and a southwesterly breeze picking up too. Most of England and Wales will remain dry overnight, with clear spells towards the south and east - which will allow fog patches to form with the calm conditions. However, further north, cloud and rain will spread southeast across Scotland and Northern Ireland through the night and becoming windy too here. The cold front bringing the cloud and rain southeast will then become stuck over northern England, southern Scotland and Northern Ireland during Sunday as it bumps into the pressure to the south. So these areas will have a rather cloudy day with patchy rain, which will become persistent over Cumbria. Mainly dry and bright or sunny to south of the front over the rest of England and Wales and north of the front over central and northern Scotland - with best chance of sunny spells towards the east. Still quite warm where we have some brightness, with temperatures reaching 17-19C in the south, 16-18C in the north. With low pressure close to the north of Britain early next week, it looks to be rather changeable across Scotland and Northern Ireland, with cloudy conditions and rain at times and windy too. Cloud and patchy rain may spill south across northern England and north Wales for a time too, but much of England and Wales will remain settled, dry and bright with sunny spells by day. Quite alot of uncertainty over what will happen after mid-week, with weather models ranging from high pressure building over the UK bringing fine and settled conditions to a cool northerly flow with showers in the east. But I think the likelihood is that most areas will be dry and settled during the second half of the week.
