Maintaining a consistent devotional life is difficult. Many of you who read this know how difficult it is to be regular and stystematic. You are busy people. Some of you have children of all ages and you wear a hat for almost every need. Both parents may work and this makes the schedule even tighter. Between bowls of cereal, glasses of orange juice, and coffee, you either kiss each other or merely wave goodby and say, I love you you. See you tonight. Changing diapers, putting out clothes to wear, finding enough money for lunches, and feeding the pets takes time. We just dont have time to develop and maintain a consistent devotional life. UNLESS, we decide that we are going to discipline ourselves to put our devotional life first. Find a time. It might be easier at night. But find a time. Structure the time so that there will be no wasted motion. The time with God should be planned and experienced to its fullest. You can be sure that our age old enemies will fight us every step of the way. The flesh will want to say, I am too tired. The world will say, dont be a fanatic. You can pray anytime. And, the devil will probably say, Put it off to a more convenient time. You know your life is in trouble when you look back on a weeks time and see how little time you have spent in the Word and on your knees. Think about it. Listen; you will find that most of your failures were caused by a failure to pray. Watch and pray that you enter not into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is week.
