Making a better and more affordable Leisure Centre Putting it bluntly the Andover Leisure Centre is overpriced and NOT of a standard that this town deserves. The best comparison to make is with the Fleming Park Leisure Centre in LibDem-run Eastleigh. This excellent centre has a gym-only membership that is £21 per month and the copious parking is free. An Andover resident wanting to use the Leisure Centre here for the same purpose would pay at least £48 per month and then have to pay parking on top of that. So if they visited the gym 10 times per month they might be paying another £20 in parking charges. So the comparison price is £21 per month in Eastleigh versus nearly £70 per month in Andover. The LibDem solution to this is to replace the franchise holders and put the management of the centre out to tender specifying the price points demanded as a MAXIMUM that the new operator can charge. We would use the Eastleigh precedent as the starting point for the new fee structure. It’s time to make the Leisure Centre more affordable.
