Malawians may experience an increase in interest rates if the government will continue borrowing locally in efforts to absorb the pressure brought by the withholding of budgetary support by donor partners, a market analyst has hinted. This comes at a time when the business community has been complaining of high interest rates which are now hovering around 35 to 40 percent in commercial banks. On Wednesday, the International Monitory Fund also revealed that they are not ready to release the next tranche from the Extended Credit Facility. Other developmental partners have since opted to channel their support through international non-governmental organizations.
