Man, SO much is going on, and Ive been doing a lousy job of promoting it! For example, did you know that I gave a talk at WyrdCon last month on my research into transmedia storytelling with 3D printers, wearable devices, augmented reality and virtual reality? No? Mea culpa! HOWEVER, LA friends have a chance to catch parts of that talk integrated my half of the Transmedia LA event, East Coast versus West Coast Transmedia. Erin Reilly and I will be slugging it out TOMORROW NIGHT (Wednesday, June 4) at 7:30 PM at USCs Annenberg Innovation Lab! What are the emergent aesthetics of west coast transmedia story franchises like STAR WARS, AVATAR or ASSASSINS CREED? How might they start to incorporate such new screens as 3D printers or the Oculus Rift? What do they (still!) need to learn from east coast style franchises? I imagine Erins half will be something along the lines of best practices for audience co-authorship, deep and rich fan engagement, and so on. Its shaping up to be a very, VERY dense evening of transmedia storytelling goodness. LETS GET READY TO RUMBLE!
