Mandi Bahauddin: The Lahore High Court Lahore verdict regarding Local Government elections in Punjab on party basis is a good omen for democracy. This was said by PPP District General Secretary Hassan Aslam Warriach while talking to PPP workers at his native village Lakhnewala. He said that local government institutions work as nurseries for training leadership at gross root level and this objective cannot be achieved by holding non-party elections. He went further and stressed that National Assembly’s unanimous resolution for delaying election for a reasonable length of time is a genuine demand. He said elections held in haste would not bring desired result. He called upon SC to review its decision for ending the dead lock between the institutions for larger interest of the public at large. Meanwhile residents of Kuthiala Sheikhan Police station have condemned police for failing to control dacoity and theft occurrences. Aamer Shehzad Sheikh Advocate said in the current week five cases of snatching motorbikes on gun point and a dacoity in a house had taken place in the Police Station limits but the local police was not tracing the culprits. The citizens are leading life under fear and insecurity due to poor performance of the police. Another resident of Chhimmon village Khurram Shehzad Gondal Advocate said that it is unfortunate that the police was not doing their primary task to provide protection to citizens and their property. They mostly perform duties with VIPs and their dealing with common citizens is insulting. He said without greasing police officials’ palms; grieved people can’t get relief. In many cases they are asked to approach local MNA or MPA for registering their cases. In such case people visit secretary of the MNA/MPA who would ask police to accommodate the grieved ones. He alleged that SHO and incharge Police Chowki Chhimmon are corrupt and the dacoity incidents are taking place with their connivance. Sher Gondal
