Many Native American leaders from Montana to Oklahoma are vehemently opposed to the Keystone XL pipeline, which the Obama administration again postponed a decision on in April. Tribes have called the pipeline the “black snake” and think it will cut across sacred Native American land and water to the detriment of the tribes. The Lakota Nations in South Dakota in particular have fought against the 1,644-mile project. The Rosebud Sioux in February rejected a document claiming the nation was given enough information about Keystone from the federal government.
