Many are starting to question the value of universities. Nolan - TopicsExpress

Many are starting to question the value of universities. Nolan Bushnell who I met a few weeks ago (the founder of Atari, creator of Chuck-E-Cheese, first boss of Steve Jobs), thinks that most universities are just going to disappear in the next few years. Their cost doesnt justify their value and more students are graduating with massive amounts of debt. Recent discussions have been taking place around the declining value of college diplomas and nowadays by the time you graduate with a degree in something your skills/knowledge are completely outdated. A lot can happen in four years! Universities should be focusing on teaching students on how to learn, and apply what they learn. We dont need people graduating with pieces of paper, we need people graduating that know how to think, learn, adapt, and solve problems. Is the sad reality becoming that the only value of having a college degree is that you need it to get your first job? I havent even touched on open courseware yet! What do you think is going to happen to educational institutions in the next 5-10 years?
