Many have questioned my silence so far on #hokkolorob especially - TopicsExpress

Many have questioned my silence so far on #hokkolorob especially since I am an active social networker and always vocal. Some have attributed it to my lack of empathy and some have suggested that it is perhaps due to my present profession which might be affected if I do not maintain an apolitical stance. My family and genuine friends have a valid reason to express concern but...but I think and therefore I am. I am a woman. I am a JU alumnus. And no one can take me out of Kolkata or Calcutta out of me. The only reason I feign to remain unaffected is because I am frustrated with how a human-issue is everytime sprinkled with political colours and slowly the focal point takes a paradigm shift and ends up in a political blame game. I chose to remain silent because I did not want to use #hokkolorob for my social(network) aggrandisement. I click enough photos without going to any rallies. I am tired of the rants of people who condemn the city at the drop of their hats but are in no way capable of helping in the process of redemption. I express complete solidarity with the student community over the horrific incident. And I sincerely hope the movement does not fizzle out post pujo. But I have just one question for everyone...can we just not aim the soft targets? Can we demand the resignation of MP Tapas Paul with equal fervour?? I am sure many are wondering where that came from! I am not surprised because many so called protestees are not even aware why was the VC gheraoed in the first place. And this is a first hand experience. #HokkolorobForTheRightReasons
