Many of you are already aware of my decision to run for Lake Arthur Town Council in November 4th Election. ( Thank you SO much for all the calls and messages that have warmed our hearts tremendously ). I had no idea that there would be 15 names on the ballot , but its a very good , well rounded list and I am excited to be in good company! I know several of the candidates are interested in some of the same goals as I am . We have always had a good town council. I believe the upcoming council will not disappoint the community! So, Yes, you will see my signs soon, but I promise not to beg for yard space ! In the weeks to come , I will be out walking ( in the afternoons So I dont pass out from the heat in someones yard ) and hope to visit with many residents . I will have some palm cards with my biography information and a few various other items reminding you that Im on the ballot :) However, my campaign headquarters is confined to my home desk space and counter space in our kitchen and my campaign budget is shoestring at best. So dear FB Friends, ( especially those who dont live in Lake Arthur), please accept my apology up front in case politics does not interest you. Until the election on November 4th, I will be taking advantage of my FB page for some valuable and budget friendly campaign space. Elect Kathy Benoit, Town Council , Lake Arthur Kathy ( Thibodeaux) Benoit Life Long Resident of Lake Arthur Graduate of Lake Arthur High School , attended LSU-E 30+ Years in Medical Office and Business Management, I am currently Office Manager for Quentin D. Romero, M.D. , Internal Medicine Married 40 years ago in Lake Arthur First United Methodist Church to Charlie Benoit, he is a current Sales Associate with R360 Environmental Solutions, and a CECP Girls Fast Pitch Coach at LAHS. Charlie was also a former Town of Lake Arthur Recreation Director. Together, Charlie and I chose to raise our three children in Lake Arthur : Charles Christian , graduate of LAHS , attended McNeese State, and now resides in Heaven . Ashley N. Benoit Lutyhe,(Mark), graduate of LAHS, ULLafayette and Southern University Law School, current Teacher , LAHS Jr. High and Coach for LAHS Lady and Gents Dance Squad and Jr. high Allstars Cheer and Dance squad Morgan Blair Benoit ( our son Charlies daughter), graduate of LAHS , attending ULLafayette, majoring in Kinesiology. Our pet family includes our Basset Hound named Preacher Man and rescue devil cat named Emerie Ann , various strays we do not claim but provide food and shelter on occasion , three raccoons who have for years lived in our neighborhood, owls, squirrels and a variety of birds,,,,,yes, we live IN town. As a family, we believe in the power and beauty of family and community. We are all practicing advocates for helping others in need and take great civic pride in our small town. We believe in God and rely daily upon his guidance. We proudly exercise our right to display The American Flag . It waves freely every single day from our front porch. We consider our friends and family as precious treasures. The decision for me to become a candidate for Lake Arthur Town Council was made as a family and they bravely support my wish to be a voice for all residents. This political arena is a brand new venture for me , and it is a responsibility I will not take lightly if elected. I promise to learn , listen and work very hard for you. One of my first priorities would be to develop a close working relationship with the other members of your council. My personal platform includes my desire to bring our community together as a whole , and to involve you and your families in making our neighborhoods a safe and happy environment for our children and grandchildren. I would like to help our Council implement plans for developing a Neighborhood Watch program through the national organization.....National Crime Prevention Committee . I would also like to propose taking Lake Arthurs Annual Budget Report and from that information develop a reader friendly Annual Budget Report for residents. I believe we need a more transparent style report that would help us understand our towns expenses and exactly how they are incurred and also understand exactly where our revenues come from and how these revenues are proposed or designated to be used. I have researched other city/town councils who have used this method to keep residents informed and in return their residents have taken more interest in volunteerism . It seems to me that community involvement is one of the main elements necessary for achieving a goal of a happy, safe, peaceful and financially sound community . Our town maintains a well balanced budget and our assets have steadily grown during Robbies term as well as during Reds previous terms. We are blessed to have this strong building block which should only encourage everyone to take interest and become active in the next stages of our communitys progress. Lake Arthur is OUR community, we must remember though, it is only on loan to us , It belongs to the generations that follow us. They trust that we will insure we leave the community to them a safer , more successful, peaceful and loving place for their families. After all, why would they expect anything less from us, the families who love them without condition. Love....more powerful than any other emotion, any race, creed or religion, any political affiliation, any financial status, any food, drink or drug. Actually, I think The Beatles got it right, All You Need Is Love . It certainly can be the driving force we use to reach whatever goals we set for our community.
