Many times in the Air Force while servicing oxygen, there was always the guy who didnt believe that just the combination of oxygen and oil could create fire or explosion. The safety of making sure those 2 items didnt come in contact was stressed to us over and over, but there were still the nay-sayers. They wrongly assume that for ignition to occur, there had to be a spark. That simply isnt the case. There is something called spontaneous combustion. To MAINTAIN fire you need 3 things, Heat, Fuel, and Oxygen. That is to maintain or sustain a fire, not create one. Certain chemicals or elements when mixed together can create fire with out any spark required. Here is a video showing exactly what I mean. So to those that wrongly thought you were safe as long there wasnt a spark, or those that said that they got lox or oxygen onto oil and nothing ever happened (you just got lucky), here you go.... a quick example of fire without any spark.
