HAVE YOU COME ONE ON ONE WITH THE LORD? TRAITS OF THE MASTER In my research and studies of the history of Christianity in the British Isles I found two legends. One is that Christianity reached the British Isles in the year 63 A. D. directly or indirectly by Joseph of Arimathaea (a relative of Christ and believed to be a tin merchant). The second legend was that by 400 – 500 A. D. that in one area the number of Christians had reached 5,000. News of this reached Rome and a man by the name of Austin was sent to convert or take into the newly formed Roman church. He contacted these people to talk with them. They knew not this Austin but agreed to meet with him in the great hall. They asked themselves “How will we know if we should follow him? He comes saying he believes in Christ”. They decided that if he had THE TRAITS OF THE MASTER (CHRIST) then we will follow him, but if not then we will not follow him. When they gathered at the great hall they found Austin sitting and was very erect, never rising when they entered and was very direct and overbearing. He appeared to come to order them rather than to join with them. They left the great hall and agreed he does not carry THE TRAITS OF THE MASTER. Austin came with power from Rome and most of the 5,000 were killed or driven from their homes. Some escaped to the Welch mountains and other places. DO YOU HAVE THE TRAITS OF THE MASTER (CHRIST)? WILL OTHERS BE WILLING TO FOLLOW YOU BECAUSE YOU FOLLOW THE MASTER? WHAT ARE THE TRAITS OF THE MASTER? Col 3:12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Col 3:13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. Mat 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Mat 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Mat 5:10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Mat 5:11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Psa 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. Psa 34:18 The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. Mat 22:36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Mat 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. Mat 22:38 This is the first and great commandment. Mat 22:39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Mat 22:40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. Mat 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. 6 THINGS THE LORD HATES SEVEN ARE AN ABOMINATION Prov 6:16 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: Prov 6:17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, Prov 6:18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, Prov 6:19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren. In the dark ages the persecutors were known to ask the children to do things they knew their parents would not have them to do in order to accuse them. Young children often would reply “Show me where the Master did it and I will do it”. WE SAY ONE THING AND DO ANOTHER. In the beginning paragraph we talked about the early Christians would not follow a man that did not have the TRAITS OF THE MASTER. Do you have the traits of the MASTER? How many people do you know that have the traits of the Master? Should people follow us if we do not have the traits of the Master?
