Marian Watters and Don Cormier this summer 2014, when i interviewd her and her son Danny ,she is 95 and just as sharp as a pin ,A very Remarkable lady !! thankyou Marian and Danny for your input to this site ,DonCormier. THE WATTERS HOUSE, Marian Watters,Born in 1918 in PEI moved here aroud 1933. Her grandfather, Laurence Rideout, built this house in 1895 out of deal ends lumber he picked out of the nashwaak river floating by .He lived here with his first wife (Mary Gilbert) ,On this property at the beginning there was a attached woodshed, Workshop,Horse barn, Wagon shed, Feed bins for chickens and cows, 2 storey hay barn and a outhouse, these were all attached to the house and it took up the whole corner 3 times as big as the house is now .Marian also told me a story about how Harry Camerons grand father (Jake) brought over a rooster once just for laughs to tease the hens . Laurence and Mary had three girls born here, Ida ,Katheryn, and Mary. Mother Mary Died here givivg birth to Mary around 1900,Then Laurence married again to (Mary Harris) Mamie ,She ran a post office here until the 30s ,Mamie also Knitted mittens, sold butter and eggs, and spun wool on her spinning wheel ,They even had their own sheep. Also Mamies mother Abigail Harris lived here until she passed away. Then around 1930 Laurence and Mamie moved to the house down on the island not to far away until Laurence passed away in the 40s. Then (Mamie) moved in with David Bruce and family up beside the charles ave meat market,(better known as the piercy house) ,And then later to Nashwaaksis with them. Then Marians father Burwell (teacher, and who Was in both world wars,and a superintendent for Acadia Forestry out the richibucto rd) and his wife Katheryn (teacher) moved in until they passed away . Marian married (Don Watters) in1938 then they moved to Ohio and had 4 children ; Andrea, Danny, Beth,and Martha,During this time until Marian and Don moved back here in 1960 the house was rented to various people, Don Watters worked as a heavy equipment operator with the government and passed away in 1981, Marian Watters still lives here today with her son Danny and wife (Ann Wheeler).A little story Marian shared with me today , She said that that mark on her forehead got there by a swing hitting her when she was young ,She Chuckled when she told me this, Your precious Marian xo
