Mark Richardson Tuvalu is another island nation that is currently swimming too, and there are other places in the Indian Ocean that are bailing right now too. Worse yet, according to the oil industry trade group the International Energy Agency, if we are unsuccessful in rapidly moving toward renewable energy, our planet is looking at a catastrophic rise in global average temperatures of between 3.6 and 5.3 degrees Celsius, or 6.5 and 9.5 degrees Fahrenheit, by the end of our current century, along with a sea-level rise of between 4 and 6 meters, or between a 13 and 19.6 foot rise too. A sea-level rise of this magnitude would severely impact every coastal city in the world, as well as large low-lying areas inland and huge amounts of productive farmland too. Current scientific theory is that the human race could not survive a temperature rise of more than 4 degrees Celsius on large areas of our planet either. But, who cares what happens to billions of people when short-term oil & gas industry profits and our immediate economic future are at-stake? Here are a couple pieces of very recent science from respectable organizations. The first is from the International Energy Agency and the second is a futures report for the year 2030 from the Office of US National Intelligence, a US Government agency. Both reports are current to the last eight months. My academic field is in urban and regional water and food supply sustainability. I also have more than 30 years of career experience in heavy national scale freight logistics, with 20 years of that in the wholesale food warehousing and distribution industry along with a recent Urban Land Use Planning and Regional Sustainability degree.
