Market research group IDC is forecasting that interchangeable lens - TopicsExpress

Market research group IDC is forecasting that interchangeable lens cameras, like the Nikon Df and other DSLRs, will be down 9.1 percent from 19.1 million units shipped last year to 17.4 million units this year. Nikon itself cut its own unit sales forecast for high-end cameras earlier this week, as Reuters put it, as a dramatic fall in demand among photography hobbyists that began last year accelerated faster than expected. -- The digicam makers are in a bit of a bind for sure...with smart phones slowly getting better and better at taking pictures the entire segment that would have otherwise purchased a stand alone shrinks dramatically. Nikon and Canon could launch co branding initiatives with the smart phone makers (similar to what Nokia did with Carl Zeiss for its uber smart phone 990) providing them with bigger sensors (the ones used in most phones have quarter the area of a US dime) and branding would definitely get my attention. An Android running Nexus 6 sporting a Nikon APS sensor (somehow) of 16 megs. that has a max ISO of 1600?? Sign me up yesterday...Ill pay an extra 150 on the phone for that.
