Marriage is one of those learning experiences where you are - TopicsExpress

Marriage is one of those learning experiences where you are continuously looking back upon your journey and, in retrospect, realizing life lessons that are being taught to you repeatedly along the path. Sometimes its that same old stupid horror movie where you find yourself screaming at the characters to stop picking up the phone or answering the door! And when they dont listen... you end up watching helplessly as they fumble around with their keys in terror, the car wont start, and they end up running frantic into the woods until they finally gather their courage to have their last epic battle of survival! Or sometimes its that fairy tale love story that makes you cry with happiness and cheer at the end, but only after anticipating with agony when they will finally have the epiphany, and realize they are madly in love with each other, and that whatever conflict drove the two apart to begin with was just a huge misunderstanding. But then comes the anxiously awaited part when the one suddenly drops everything they are doing and runs passionately after the other in order to stop them from boarding their plane, usually in the nick of time to confess their undying love! Time feels like it stands still as you wait for their response and then BOOM! They embrace and you want to hug and jump up and down with the closest person in the room you can find!! :) Sometimes, its a comedy show, and sometimes its a tragedy. But almost always, I find myself learning or relearning something every year we make it to another anniversary. This year, I realized with more certainty that thank you goes a long way, that Im sorry doesnt fix everything, but its always a good place to start, that honesty is always the best policy, that forgiveness is better than getting even, that God is real and wants us to succeed, that kids are little wonderful gifts who just happen to be wrapped in a hundred frustrating zip-ties, that giving is better than receiving, that its really important to mate socks, that dinner doesnt need to be cooked in the oven, but should be served with a heart full of love, that feelings dont always need to be expressed at 2 in the morning, that passion is better than pleasure, that quality is better than quantity, and that time is the most important thing we have in this world to use, and that none of it should be taken for granted, abused, or wasted. Thank you for the last 14 years together Chad Kiehl the good, the bad, and even the ugly. Heres to looking back only to grow, forward that the future may be bright, and living gratefully in the present in order to make more and more joy filled memories with you. Heres to making our love story one that even puts The Notebook to shame ;) xo happy anniversary. 😉
