Mass media, political parties not friendly to women: Inu → Staff Correspondent Information minister Hasanul Haq Inu Thursday said mass media and political parties of the country are not friendly towards women, which impedes ensuring rights of women. He made the remark while addressing as the chief guest a seminar titled ‘situation of female journalists in electronic media of Bangladesh’ at the National Press Club in the capital. The minister laid emphasis on empowerment of women in mass media, political parties and corporate houses for advancement of the society. South Asia Women in Media (SAWM) organized the programme its president Rasheda Anam in the chair. Inu said that political parties of the country hardly take any steps and even they do not arrange any programme like discussion to talk about women issues. “Women in our society are neglected in their workplaces due to various superstitions,” he added. The minister also said the government is working to ensure the rights of women workers in trade union and award special medals to women for their best performances. Sharmin Renvi, news editor of private TV channel Bangla Vision, placed various demands at the seminar on behalf of the SAWM. The demands include strengthening women-based journalist organizations, creating working environment in mass media, government training for women journalists, separate wage board for women journalists in electronic media and keeping reserve post for women at the executive committee of the National Press Club.
