Massive thank you to Stephen Blakeman for this poem jft96 Please read and like all xxx Just Being Me They werent a number. They were just like me. Not 96 when we all went to see. The boys in red who we all wanted to be. In warm April sunshine, with leaves on the tree. When we went as an I. And returned as a we. All together now, the 96 we are. Recognised as a number from near and from far. But I wasnt a number then, I was just me. Look for my name and you will see That we were all people with faces and smiles and to watch the Reds wed traveled some miles. On that Spring day in Sheffield, we were happy and carefree. Singing our songs with thoughts of Wembley. But whats in a number. There have now been a few. Like 56 and 66 to name just two. But none of them were numbers, they were all people like me. Who went to a game just hoping to see. A team that they loved just trying to be. The best that they could and winning easily. So think of me as a number sometime. When names dont come easy. Or its better in rhyme. Thats alright, I dont mind. Because now I am free. Of the pain and the sadness. That I left you to be. But then I became us. And us became all. And weve watched as you grew strong and for us you stood tall. Against those who didnt care that I was a me. Who lied when they said I got in for free. Who buried my story so no one could see. That the 96, were just us, a he and a she. But The Truth will be told. Just you wait and see. And Justice will be done. For him, her and we. When better days for all well foresee. Then no longer a number 96 we will all be. And I can go back... to Just Being Me.
