Ive been doing a bit of research on current events and related history worldwide in my spare time, and Ive come to a few conclusions. One of which is that there is an incredibly low chance of ever reaching worldwide peace, either during our lifetimes or a thousand generations from now. Throughout time its stood that human beings exist in an ever-increasingly complex society. And when that societys balance is upset, as it all-too-often is, violence is one of the first responses. I actually doubt that such a reaction is at all unnatural. I once came across a report on a study regarding rats in spaces too small for the number of animals. Their society would fall apart into violence. Mothers stopped protecting offspring, allied males would turn on each other, and violence would break out en mass. In addition, when rabbits raze an area too cleanly of any vegetation, they will begin to gnaw each other to pieces, despite no apparent advantage as herbivores. So one could argue, and I think I would agree, that gratuitous violence is natural, and a strong trait in the human psyche. And humans will start arguments, fights, battles, and even wars over the pettiest matters. Negotiation is almost always reserved for when war isnt an option, never a first choice. Wars will break out for land, religion, politics, even economic reasons. My particular favorite to scoff at is religion, and it even always seems to have the most volatile results. People will readily cause the slaughter of hundreds, thousands, or millions, even for an unproven higher power, or even a baseless concept. Of course, Im not saying all wars are pointless. Struggles for freedom, necessary resources, and the like are all completely valid. However, that makes them no less bloody and violent. And Im not speaking poorly of the ignition of so many wars in the modern world. They at least do the favor of employing soldiers, after all. If it werent for the petty, violent nature of human beings, I wouldnt have a talent. But at the end of the day, with such an inclination to violence, and a volatility that can bring on slaughter at the slightest cue... I suspect humanity will never see the end of war. For better or worse.
